A Citizen-Powered COP for Australia

Citizen COP Australia is a decentralised, people-powered movement by People For Nature, running alongside the 2026 global COPs to expand the “Green Zone”—the public, open space of COP designed for participation—into communities across the country, turning global climate, biodiversity, and circular economy discussions into accessible, citizen-led conversations that everyone is invited to be part of.

In 2025, the Australian chapter of AlterCOP, brought to life by People For Nature, reached 1,400+ participants across 42 events, 8 locations, and 49 organisations.

In 2026, we are building on this momentum with Citizen COP—an Australia-wide movement of local dialogues contributing to broader conversations with government and strengthening a collective voice for climate and nature. We'd love you to be part of it.

Our Shared Vision

Advancing the Green Zone

COP (Conference of the Parties) is the UN's annual global climate and biodiversity summit, where countries come together to negotiate international agreements on climate and nature action. While these decisions shape global policy, the process can often feel complex and distant from everyday life.

The “Green Zone” is the public-facing space of COP, where civil society, businesses, and organisations come together to learn, share ideas, and take part in events and dialogue — making global discussions more open, inclusive, and accessible.

Citizen COP expands the Green Zone beyond the summit — so more citizens can understand COP, feel part of the conversation, and engage in climate and biodiversity discussions without needing to be at the international negotiations themselves.
