Climate Fresk, Why a Game on Climate Change?
Climate change is the defining challenge of our time. It calls for bold decision-making that reflects the urgency and scale of the crisis—decisions grounded in science and responsive to community needs. To achieve this, we need a population that is informed, empowered, and able to hold decision-makers to account.
But there’s a problem: climate science isn’t always easy to engage with.
The Climate Fresk changes that. It transforms complex science into a collaborative, accessible, and engaging game—making climate education something everyone can connect with and understand.
What is Climate Fresk?
Climate Fresk is a workshop designed to help participants explore the science behind climate change, understand its current and future impacts, and discover ways to take meaningful action.
Developed in 2015, the workshop is based on the scientific findings of the United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) — the world’s leading authority on climate science.
How does it work?
Climate Fresk is a 3-hour workshop built around a 42-card game.
In teams of 4–8 people, and guided by a trained facilitator, participants work together to uncover the cause-and-effect relationships between different aspects of climate change.
Across five rounds, the 42 cards are arranged to create the “Fresk” — a visual, systems-based representation of how climate change works.
To consolidate learning, participants then move through a creative phase, a reflective discussion, and finally explore potential solutions and actions.

Who is it for?
Climate Fresk is for everyone — from those just beginning their climate journey to seasoned experts.
By taking part in a workshop, you will:
